Chinese investment company Greenwood Capital has agreed two sponsorship deals with reigning AFL (Australian Football League) champions Melbourne FC and A-League side Melbourne Victory respectively, according to SportsPro.
Under the agreements, the investment group becomes Melbourne FC’s second Chinese partner, following Southern Airlines which started to sponsor the team in 2014. In addition to the partnership with the AFL club, the firm also reached a shirt sponsorship deal with Melbourne Victory in the 2016 AFC Champions League.
Financial terms of both agreements have not been disclosed.
“Melbourne has always had a strong relationship with China from the New Gold Mountain during last century’s gold rush to the international students in recent times,” said Melbourne FC chief executive Peter Jackson.
“We ensure that our engagement is built through cooperation and relationships rather than being purely transactional.”
Greenwood Capital is a Chinese investment company, and its investment portfolio spans property, health centres, Australian food exports and cultural exchange.
