Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei announced that it has signed a deal to become the sponsor of the Madrid Marathon and Half Marathon.
The event, which will take place on April 24 this year, is expected to attract some 31,000 runners with one million spectators lining the city’s streets.
"We are proud to link our image to an event that promotes the same values our company represents: values such as commitment, sustainability and motivation. The aim of this sponsorship is not only to improve our market recognition, but also to show our commitment to Spanish society," said Tony Jin Yong, CEO of Huawei Spain.
"We have chosen this sport because it is an excellent way to transmit values through positive progress and effort," he added.
2015 saw Huawei reach a level of 65 percent in brand recognition, selling over 2 million units in Spain. This consolidated the company's position as the second most important smartphone producer in the market, the firm added.
