China’s Sina Sports officially announced today (January 7th) that it has secured a long-term partnership with Premier League giants Manchester United FC to bring the club’s MUTV to Mainland China.
Under the deal, which will commence from January 17th, Sina Sports will become the exclusive free streamer of MUTV in Mainland China. It is the first time an English club has launched a 24X7 channel for Chinese supporters.
“This is an important and exciting partnership, not only for Manchester United but also for our Chinese fans. The Club works tirelessly on new and innovate ways in which to engage with our fans and this is a classic example of how our commercial partnerships allow us to do this,” said Richard Arnold, Manchester United Group Managing Director.
“This partnership is a great example of the vision we have to provide Chinese fans with more diversified, in-depth sports content,” said Arthur Wei, Senior Vice President of Sina and General Manager of Sina Sports.
“Manchester United has deservedly gained over 100 million followers in China, and we are excited to see how the club will grow its following through this historic launch. We anticipate making great strides towards changing the way China watches and understands the game of football.”
