2016 will see Beijing’s Topwin Golf and Country Club host The Open Golf Championship of China (the Volvo China Open), according to several media reports.
Over the last seven years, the country’s national tournament has been staged outside the Chinese capital, where the competition was initially set up.
“The Volvo China Open’s return to its birthplace, Beijing, enables us to experience the tradition and the glory of The Open Golf Championship of China”, said Zhang Xiaoning, director of China’s Small Ball Administration Center.
Zhang added, “As the last international exchange tournament to be hosted in mainland China before the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, we hope the Volvo China Open will (provide opportunities) for the elite Chinese players to compete with top European players and to prepare for the Games”.
The tournament, with Volvo as the primary sponsor, is an event co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the OneAsia Tour. A prize fund of approximately $3.2 million is on offer. The action will commence on April 28 and run until 1st May 2016.
