Qihoo 360 to sponsor Chinese racing team for 2016 Dakar Rally

Qihoo 360, a Chinese internet security company, announced today that it will sponsor the Health 100 Team, the only Chinese participant in the 2016 Dakar Car Rally. At the same time, the company plans to launch an educational charity project by donating its products.

The technology giant is known for its antivirus software, web browser and mobile application store. Founded by Zhou Hongyi and Qi Xiangdong in June 2005, it had 496 million users for internet security products and 641 million users for mobile antivirus products as of June 2014.

As the network security services sponsor, Qihoo 360 will provide the team with a package including Qihoo 360 mobile phones, portable Wi-Fi devices and auto data recorders. Analysts say that this move is a reflection of the company’s decision to layout its car networking security strategy. 

The 2016 Dakar Rally will be the 37th running of the event and the eighth successive year that the event will be held in South America. The event is expected to start in Buenos Aires, Argentina on January 2, then run through Argentina and Bolivia.
