The International Cricket Council (ICC) has entered a four-year partnership with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo.

The Chinese company has been named a global partner of the sport’s governing body under the deal which will run from 2016 until 2020. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

On November 25, 2015, an Indian online newspaper, the Economic Times, broke the news of the partnership, in which Oppo has committed to pay $34 million over the next four years to the ICC.

"The ICC is delighted to welcome OPPO on board as a global partner and we are excited about the opportunity to team up for the next four years. OPPO is one of the market leaders in its field with an impressive worldwide presence, especially in territories where the game of cricket continues to grow and, in a lot of cases, flourish," said ICC chief executive David Richardson.

Sky Li, vice president of OPPO and managing director of international mobile business, said: "OPPO is very enthusiastic about supporting international cricket, and co-operating with the ICC in bringing cricket fans more of the world-class competitions that the organization is known for. The partnership will allow us to continue to strengthen our links with consumers, as we join them in celebrating the great sport of cricket."

As part of Oppo’s efforts to grow its profile on the global sporting scene, this deal follows its recent partnership with Spanish soccer giant, Barcelona.
