SPORTACCORD 2024 INSIGHTS: Sport’s Perfect Storm

After a final pitch before the Fiba Central Board on Friday in Tokyo, Japan, the world’s basketball governing body granted China the privilege to host the 2019 Fiba Basketball World Cup. China edged Philippines, which banked on the Filipinos’ passion for the sports and reach on social media in its bid for the hosting, in a decision broadcast over the world via streaming on Fiba’s YouTube account.
CCTV 5, the sports channel provided by China’s CCTV, announced earlier this week on Sina Weibo that the channel would be going to screen 2015/2016 English Premier League (EPL). The first match presented yesterday was the clash between Everton FC and Watford FC.
PPTV Sports, a leading online sports streaming platform in China, held a press conference this afternoon to announce the 5-year exclusive La Liga deal. Under the deal, PPTV Sports will hold the all-media rights of La Liga in mainland China, Taiwan and Macau from 2015-2020 for 250 million euros.
Alibaba Group Holding Limited, China’s leading e-commerce giants, yesterday announced an agreement with Kobe Inc., a newly formed company by the renowned NBA superstar Kobe Bryant. Under the deal Alibaba will release Kobe’s recent video narrative, Kobe Bryant’s Muse, exclusively through Tmall Magic Box on August 8, 2015. n addition, Alibaba Pictures, an affiliate of Alibaba Group, will work with Kobe Inc. to create a series of Kobe branded products and distribute them through their popular retail platforms
On August 1st, FAW-Audi signed an agreement with China Winter Sports Adminstration. FAW-Audi became the official sponsor of China Figure Skating, Short Track Skating, Snowboard Halfpipe, Alpine Skiing, Freestyle Skiing Aerials National Team.
Letv Sports revealed on July 30 that they had acquired the exclusive digital rights of Serie A for the next three seasons, starting from the coming 2015/2016 season. Under the new deal, Letv Sports will live stream all 380 games of Serie A in each season.
One of the top Bundesliga’s club, FSV Mainz 05 has penned a 260-million-dollar deal with the Swiss sports group Infront, recently purchased by the Chinese commercial property company Wanda, with an initial down payment of 10 million Euros and the balance to be paid over 10 years.
Sina Sports has secured a two-year agreement with former England player Michael Owen. The deal will see Owen commentate on Premier League, UEFA Champions League and 2016 UEFA European Championship matches.
