Sina Sports has secured a two-year agreement with former England player Michael Owen. The deal will see Owen commentate on Premier League, UEFA Champions League and 2016 UEFA European Championship matches. This follows the signing of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti who has worked with many big European football clubs and is another ambitious move made by Sina Sports to provide more insightful coverage of European football events in China.
Besides commentating on matches, Owen will also write his own column, join in with a monthly online Q&A and present souvenirs bearing his autograph to fans.
Wei Jianglei, Senior Vice President of Sina and Managing Director of Sina Sports Business Department said that Sina Sports will utilize all its resources at its disposal to improve the fans’ experience when reading sports news, content and while watching live matches, highlights or delayed coverage.
He also emphasized that for media, content is as important as broadcasting rights and that Sina Sports would bring more celebrities from sports and the entertainment industry to join the coverage and promote the events.
