On 10 April, Operation Commencement Ceremony of Shanghai Guotai Junan Yongbai Women’s Football Club (literally translated) was held in Shanghai. The football team was officially founded in 10 February, 2015.
The club was invested by Guotai Junan Securities. The total amount of investment was 20 million yuan, and was made in one payment. According to online information, the company has 4.7 billion yuan for registered capital, and has branches and offices across China.
Shanghai women’s football was traditionally a strong team, having developed many brilliant players and won many competitions. From 2003 to 2006, the team won four champions, three runner-ups, and three third places in China Women’s Super League.
The establishment of the new club signals that the club has marketized. Up to now, all three major sports, basketball, football, and volleyball, have completed changes towards commercialization and started professional operation.
The club has set a three-year plan. For the first year, they plan to get in the front in terms of club performance and management. For the second year, they plan to enter the final of Asia’s women football club championship. For the third year, they plan to be at the top in world women’s club championship.
