On March 21, during the 2019 China Cup International Football Championship, Atlético Madrid held “The Night of Atlético de Madrid” in Nanning, China, announcing that it will open offices in Beijing and Chengdu, China. It will cooperate with Wanda Sports to promote the development of Chinese football, and also build strong media partnerships and a thriving digital media presence to enhance communication with Chinese fans.
These two offices will become the first overseas offices for the Spanish LaLiga football club creating a significant step in the strategic cooperation between Atlético Madrid and Wanda Sports.
Atlético Madrid are currently second in LaLiga, behind FC Barcelona. At the event, club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín said: “We want to promote the development of the club in Asia and enhance its influence. Meanwhile, we’d like to help Asian brands in global expansion with our solid brand image in Europe and Americas. Also we want to make contributions to the development of Chinese football.”
