The American football property, the National Football League (NFL), has announced a digital partnership with Chinese online video platform Youku to bring more content to Chinese fans.
Youku belongs to Alibaba and is a comprehensive entertainment video platform providing TV dramas, films, reality shows and other video contents to Chinese audiences.
Under this partnership, the Youku Sports channel will start offering weekly programmes, game highlights and behind-the-scenes stories from NFL games such as the Super Bowl, NFL Kickoff, Thanksgiving, and the NFL International series. There will also be documentaries made by NFL, NFL marketing and NFL draft-related contents.
Youku will also aim to operate extensively around NFL content and to use innovative technologies to elevate the experience of users.
The managing director of NFL China, Richard Young, said that “We are excited to partner with Youku to bring localized NFL highlights and content to the NFL’s rapidly growing fan base across China. ”
“Youku’s popularity and high-quality production will provide our fans more access to NFL action every week.”
NFL has other collaborations in China with their social media partner Sina Weibo and exclusive digital media partner Tencent (2017-2020), apart from the digital video platform Youku.
