The China Soong Ching Ling Foundation was invited to Spain at the beginning of December by the Superior Council of Sports, LaLiga and Spain’s AEPD to promote non-governmental sports collaborations between China and Spain.
The trip came about after President Xi Jinping’s visit to Spain where the two countries jointly announced the creation of a comprehensive bilateral strategic partnership. Among other things, the announcement points out that the two countries will enhance collaborations in areas such as education, culture, sports and tourism.
The China Soong Ching Ling Foundation delegation visited the President of the Superior Council of Sports, Maria Jose Rienda, LaLiga Foundation’s Elena Montoro Garcia, President of the AEPD, Julian Redondo and other leaders in key Spanish organizations during the trip. The parties had discussions around improving the development of children sports education and health, driving humanitarian and cultural exchange between the country’s youths, and organizing children’s football friendlies between China and Europe.
Play Fund, a fund which was set up by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation in August 2018, is specifically dedicated to the development of children’s sports and sports education in China, will be involved in future collaborations after these discussions and has also supported the trip.
Play Fund has also organized a China-Portugal international children cultural festival, Play Fest, in Lisbon, Portugal, from December 2-9, 2018.
The parties have all expressed their willingness to strengthen communication and collaboration with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation to drive the growth of children’s and teenager’s health, support the exchange and communication between the youth generations of both countries, and the creation of more grassroots cross-country exchanges and communication.
