On May 10, Dalian Wanda Group signed a record sports Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Chengdu municipal government of Sichuan Province, aiming to turn the city into a world-famous hub for sporting events.
Attending the signing ceremony was Luo Qiang, Deputy Secretary of Chengdu Municipal Party and Mayor of the city, along with Wanda Chairman Wang Jianlin.
Under their cooperation, the two sides will work together on sports, tourism and culture, committing themselves to turning Chengdu into an international sporting event city as well as a core city for Wanda’s property development.
Specifically, Chengdu is expected to hold major international sporting events including marathon races, football, basketball, tennis, cycling and triathlon.
Luo Qiang expressed his appreciation for Wanda because the group provided strong support for rebuilding work after the devastating earthquake of Sichuan in 2008. As Luo said, the MOU was signed just before the 10th anniversary of the Sichuan earthquake of 2008, as Wanda Chairman Wang Jianlin also came to Sichuan to attend the ceremony.
Wang commented that Chengdu is a famous historical and cultural city since its establishment over 2,300 years ago. Based on the rich resources of culture, tourism and sports in the city, Wanda plans to make a heavier investment, introduce major projects as well as reach a win-win situation for both sides.
