On the eve of King Pro League (KPL) Spring 2018, the league’s owner Tencent IEG held a press conference in Chengdu, Sichuan, where a set of plans to upgrade this league were announced.
KPL Spring will be divided into two conferences with 6 teams respectively. The East Conference’s home stadium will be based in Shanghai while the West Conference will be based in Chengdu.
The prize pool for the KPL Spring 2018 was also disclosed at the press conference with the KPL President Zhang Yijia announcing that the league will provide a prize pool of RMB 12m for the teams, 4.3 times more than the prize pool of the 2017 KPL Autumn edition.
In order to enhance the league’s profile, the KPL has planned three actions. Firstly, KPL will confirm some clubs as permanent members of the league in 2019. In Zhang’s opinion, it will help benefit the teams in terms of cultivating their fan bases in their home cities.
Then, the league intend to nominate eight cities as KPL’s host cities over this three-year period.
The third part of the plan is that the KPL’s summer league’s King Champion Cup (KCC) will invite overseas King of Glory teams this year to China and provide a mouthwatering prize pool of US$1m in total.
Inaugurated in 2016 by Tencent IEG, KPL is the top flight league of King of Glory in China.
