On March 6, Guangdong Province held a sports officer meeting in Zhaoqing City. In the year 2017, the Province reported an overall sports output of 320.845 billion yuan, with an added value of 99.97 billion yuan, accounting for 1.37 percent of the provincial Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Guangdong also ranked first by taking up 18.19 percent of the overall sports output of China.
“Guangdong needs to play a more important role in economic and social development in the future to improve people’s sense of satisfaction and happiness. ” As Wang Yuping, director of Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau, said, “we should also make efforts to combine sports, technology, culture and education, creating a booming sports landscape for local residents.”
Su also pointed out that, over the next five years, Guangdong can take full use of the opportunities from major events, including the 2018 Asian Games, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2021 Shaanxi National Games, to make greater achievements in professional sports and mass-participation sports.
As a response to the province’s overall plan of establishing 100 new community sports parks, Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau aims to allocate 200 related establishment and improvement projects for 2018.
