A Tencent-owned eSports live streaming mini program called WeChat eSports was released on WeChat in the past few days according to a report by LeSports. The report said that Wechat officially announced the launch of the mini program on Jan. 29 2018.
The mini program integrates many live streaming programs covering various mobile games, such as King of Glory, Cross Fire and NBA Live. These programs are currently being delivered by broadcasters from other eSports live streaming platforms in China, such as huya.com, chushou.com and douyu.com.
In other words, WeChat eSports will act as a platform, gathering live streaming programs from major eSports live streaming platforms in China, and paving the way for WeChat users to access these programs through WeChat, one of the most frequently used apps among Chinese young people.
It is commented by the LeSports story that this program would increase visit and views of the eSports live streaming platforms because of the huge WeChat user base.
Users can also play eSports in the mini program, but there is only one mobile game now.
In January 2017, China's top messaging app WeChat launched a new product, the mini programs, which looks and operates much like apps on Apple Inc's iOS and Google's Android operating system but is far less data-intensive and does not need to be downloaded seperately. Up to now, many famous companies, such as McDonald's and KFC, have launched their mini programs in WeChat.
