The proposed 1.42-billion-yuan project, with an area of 96,000 square meters, will be able to accommodate 12,000 spectators to watch ice skating, ice hockey and curling events during the 2022 Games.
It is the first time for China to adopt a Public-Private Partnership model in building a venue for an Olympic games. The bidding winner of the project is a consortium of four state-owned enterprises with extensive experience in sports facility construction, investment, financing and operation.
The Oval was designed by architectural firm Populous and is foreseen to be used as a public skating venue and for ice hockey clubs.
