November 22: A 6-year partnership has been agreed between the FIFA Club World Cup and Alibaba Cloud, the cloud-service offshoot of Alibaba Group.
According to Hu Xiaoming, President of Alibaba Cloud, the two parties will work together to promote the sport of football by leveraging the cloud services and other creative technology offered by Alibaba Cloud. Additionally, Alibaba will act as the designers of the winner’s trophy at this year’s edition of the FIFA Club World Cup tournament which will kick off in the United Arab Emirates on December 6, 2017.
One thing worth mentioning is that Alibaba Cloud has reportedly become the biggest cloud-service entrepreneur in the Middle East with the company also acting as the supplier of cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence services to local governments and entrepreneurs in the Middle Ease and North Africa.
In fact, this is not the first time Alibaba Cloud has combined cloud services and sports. During the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Alibaba Cloud partnered with Xinhua News Agency and allowed the latter to quickly deliver game reports with photos to Chinese fans.
This combination also transformed the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China where Alibaba Cloud came up with a cloud-service solution for TV broadcasting in assisting TV channels to stream events for the audiences.
