Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan, has released its 2020 strategic sports industry plan. According to the plan, the local government is going to create a large-scale sports industry allowing Kunming to become a major sports and recreational city.
Kunming has set a specific goal for their sports industry. It is hoped that by 2020, the sports industry in Kunming will become an RMB40 billion business. A national sports industrial park, two sports complexes with various sporting venues plus two training bases will be built in Kunming. As for mass sport, Kunming will set aside approximately two square meters available per capita for mass sport.
Further to these, sports events and sports tourism will also be priorities of the local government's sports industry. The local government intend to host ten top level sports events and ten sports tourism projects by 2020, leveraging Kunming's moderate climate, mountain landscapes and hot spring resources.
