23 May 2024 14:34
August 9: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Chinese Football Association (CFA) jointly launched a series of social-responsibility activities in Chengdu, China including a visit to the SOS Children’s Village Chengdu where they carried out a campaign for children there.
After donating footballs and football-related equipment to the 60 children of the SOS village, the AFC and the CFA organized several experience activities for them, including a shootout challenge and 5v5 football games led by Dr. Annathurai Ranganathan, Head of the AFC Social Responsibility Department and former Chinese international Zou Yougen.
As a mission of the AFC, a share of the Asian Champions League’s (ACL) prize money will be spent on promoting philanthropic football development in the communities of the winning ACL club. So, the funding for these activities in Chengdu were taken from Guangzhou Evergrande’s ticket revenue from the 2016/17 ACL.
With the aim of allowing children in the SOS Village to experience the sport of football and lead them about a healthier lifestyle, the AFC and the CFA jointly launched these new social responsibility campaigns. It is hoped that these activities will also assist in attracting more people to play football and support football in China.
