FINA World Aquatics Gala and 10km World Cup to land in Sanya, China

June 22: Hainan Provincial governor Shen Xiaoming met with a visiting delegation from the Fédération Internationale de Natation Association (FINA) led by Cornel Marculescu, Executive Director of FINA. As reported by Sanya Daily, the FINA World Aquatics Gala and the 10km World Cup will land in Sanya, Hainan Province in 2017.

The World Aquatics Gala “Soirée des Etoiles” is the annual top award ceremony held by FINA aimed at paying tribute to the best athletes and coaches of the year in the six aquatic disciplines. The 10km World Cup Swimming Series is an annual international long-distance open-water swimming event which takes place in 8 countries with dozens of elite marathon swimmers from over 10 countries competing. 

During his meeting with FINA, Shen stated that they were actively working to promote the sports industry in Hainan Province and would be willing to stage and service FINA's events. FINA's Marculescu expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Hainan Province for their support of these two events while also hoping that these events could help Hainan Province popularize the sport of swimming and contribute towards the development of swimming coaching projects for teenagers.
