eSports to be officially included at 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games

On April 17, Alisports and the Olympic Council of Asia reached a strategic cooperation. They will work together to promote the development of eSports. eSports will also be officially included in the19th Hangzhou Asian Games in 2022.

Alisports organized the 1st World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) in April 2016, with players from more than 100 countries and regions taking part. The programs of the WESG include Counter-Strike, Star Craft, DOTA2 etc. The total prize for the WESG was 5.5 million dollars.

It is reported that Alisports invested over 100 million Yuan for the inaugural WESG and will continue to organize it in the next 5 or 6 years.

According to a report from the Netease, there is an audience of 190 million for eSports, among which 82 million of these are in China. That has made China the biggest eSports market in the world.

As reported by the General Administration of Sport of China, the overall scale of the eSports industry has reached 2.7 billion. The overall scale of the eSports players and consumers is expected to reach 220 million people this year, as shown by a research report on the Chinese eSports and video game live streaming industry published by a Chinese consultancy company iResearch.
