On March 21 (German local time), Chairman Werner Gegenbauer, Manager Michael Prates and Finance Supervisor Ingo Schiller of the German club Hertha BSC Berlin took a flight to China.
It is reported that the executives flew to China to negotiate a sponsorship agreement with a Chinese enterprise. If all goes well, this company will be the second strategic partner of Hertha following the American private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. (KKR). Unlike KKR, who injected funds to help improve Hertha’s financial structure, this time the sponsorship amount is significant and will be used to improve the team itself.
In February 2014, the Berlin club sold 9.7% equity and then KKR invested 6.12 million Euros to help the club settle debts and reduce operating costs.
On the other hand according to a report in the German economic journal Capital, the Chinese company Fosun International has been in contact with clubs such as Hertha BSC Berlin, Borussia Dortmund and VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach since 2015 and intends to invest in one of them.
