On the morning of March 8th Beijing Municipal Government and Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau hosted a press conference. It was announced by the Heads in charge of the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau that the Bureau proposed the opening of primary and middle schools’ sports venues to the public, and now 600 of the schools have done so.
Lu Hongze, Associate Counsel of the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau, explained that stadiums of primary and middle schools would open to the public in an "orderly" manner. Specific approaches are at the pilot stage in Beijing.
Shi Jiangping, Divisional Chief of the Sports Bureau made it known that 600 stadiums belonging to primary and middle schools would open to the public now in a pilot programme. This number accounts for 70% of the total stadiums suitable for opening.
Shi also said that the newly-opened areas would be separate from the teaching areas, that it would not affect normal teaching work and parents had no need to worry about security issues. Besides, the opening is only after school & during holiday periods and all people entering the stadiums will need registration.
Finally, Shi stated that there would be specific regulations, expected to be drafted in 2018 and published in the second half of the year. Under these new laws the government would allow more sports venues to open to the public as soon as possible.
