On December 24, 2016, Winnerway (a famous Guangdong corporation with businesses in trading, real estate, basketball, pharmaceuticals , hotels, restaurants etc.) officially announced the foundation of the Guangdong Hongyuan Sports Development Ltd (Hongyuan Sports), which will focus on sports services operation including sports training and sports events hosting. Winnerway set up the first professional basketball club in China, the Guangdong Tigers, in 1993.
Hongyuan Sports intend to fully develop sports training, sports events services, sports goods development and related businesses in addition to the existing businesses of running a professional basketball club and operating the Nissan Sports Center.
Currently the Hongyuan Youth Basketball Training Camp is its main brand, with over 500 trainees attending 20 weekend classes in the Nancheng sub-district of Dongguan. The camp will set up a youth basketball training system for trainees aged 4-18 and establish partnerships with key sports schools and key middle schools in Guangdong to build talent development channels.
Trainees with both talent and ambition for professional basketball development will get trials for the Tigers’ junior and youth teams as a start on their career path.
Hongyuan Sports will involve itself in comprehensive cooperation with the Guangdong Basketball Association to develop the syllabus and evaluation criteria of basketball grades. The aim is to promote the all-round development of Guangdong basketball through the positive cycle between training and matches.
