Preparations for Beijing Winter Olympics well underway

On December 15, 2015, the Organizing Committee of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics held their first meeting, which signaled the official launch of preparations for the games.  

Since then, the Organizing Committee has set up 9 departments and 2 operation centers. The establishment of an athletes committee is being planned to better reflect the athlete-centric concept and bring into play the function of athletes during the preparation. 

It is said that at the beginning of 2017, the Organizing Committee will recruite the first staffs from all over the world, including foreign experts. The Organizing Committee has organized several staff trainings this year, including sending 79 selected staff to the Observer Programme of the Rio Olympics and Paralympics.  

As the first Olympics city that has followed the Olympic Agenda 2020 from the bidding phase, Beijing has integrated sustainability into the overall preparation. 

The Organizing Committee has also learnt from the experience of the legacy of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, and already started analysis and assessment of the content and formation of the legacy of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, in order to leave more tangible and intangible legacy. 

All the new stadiums to be built are presently being planned and designed. Construction will start in 2017, with the main works completed by the end of 2019. 

The emblem of the Beijing Winter Olympics will be launched in the second half of 2017. The Organizing Committee was collecting proposals for an emblem worldwide from July 31 to the end of November, and has now started the review process. 

It is understood that the Organizing Committee plans to start commercial development at the beginning of 2017. The recruitment of the first tier and second tier of sponsors will start in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The search for exclusive and non-exclusive suppliers will be carried out in 2019. The licensing plan will start in 2018, followed by the ticketing plan.
