On December 20, the Shenzhen Municipal Government submitted The Special Work Report on the Development of the Sports Industry to the 12th session of the 6th Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress for review. The report explains the development of the Shenzhen sports industry in 2015 and 2016.
In 2015, the output of the Shenzhen sports industry was RMB 49.87 billion, with added value of RMB 19.303 billion, accounting for 1.1% of GDP. It is estimated that in 2016, the output of the Shenzhen sports industry will reach RMB 55.378 billion, with added value of RMB 21.498 billion.
According to the estimates, in 2016, the output of the Shenzhen high-end sports manufacturing sector will reach RMB 33.546 billion, accounting for 60.6% of the output of the sports industry. In 2015, the output of the Shenzhen leisure sports & fitness sector was RMB 6.873 billion, and it is estimated to reach RMB 7.905 billion in 2016, with a growth rate of 15%.
As of November 2016, there are 13,049 sports venues in Shenzhen, including 58 large sports facilities and stadiums. Shenzhen plans to promote rapid development of the sports industry in the future, aiming at becoming a strong sports city as well as a modern international innovative city.
