JiLin Province to hold 249 winter sports events

On December 18th, the Jilin session of the “Winter Sports Promotional Projects for the National Public” was launched in Jingyuetan, Changchun City. The program will last from December 2016 to March 2017. It is hosted by the General Administration of Sport of China and the People’s Government of Jilin, and co-organized by the Sports Bureau of Jinlin Province and the People’s Government of Changchun City.

The program is aimed at achieving a harmonious integration of national fitness and health, as well as promoting ice & snow recreational sports and ice & snow tourism.

During the program, 249 sports events, catering for professionals and also the general public, will be held at various locations in Jilin province.

Among these events, ice-skating, skiing, hiking, automobile challenge, snow marathon, bikini skiing competition and winter fishing will be for the general public, while 39 sports events held on ice or snow will be for professionals. Of the latter, 5 are international level events, 21 are national level and 13 are provincial level. It is estimated that over 3 million people will participate during the Ice And Snow Sports Series events.

Of the events for elite professionals, the 14th Vasaloppet China will open on January 4th 2017. Later the 2017 World Snow Day and International Children’s Skiing will be held in Jinlin province for the first time and open on January 15th 2017 at Beidahu Ski Resort in Jilin.

Statistics show that next year, 21 national level ice and snow sports events and 13 provincial sports events will be held in Jinlin province, including short track speed skating, speed skating, figure skating, snowboarding, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and ski jumping.
