A Chinese group is in an initial negotiation to purchase the Italian Serie B soccer club Brescia Calcio, according to the Italian terrestrial and satellite television channel SportItalia.
It is understood that a meeting will be held in the coming days to discuss the projected sale of the Lombard-based club. The Chinese group has not been identified and more details about this news are yet to be disclosed.
Brescia Calcio, founded in 1911, is an Italian soccer club based in Brescia, Lombardy, and currently plays in Serie B. Their best finish in Serie A came in the 2000/01 season when they were placed seventh. Its stadium is the 27,547 seater Stadio Mario Rigamonti.
In the past year, Chinese investors have shown a great interest in buying into European soccer clubs. The Serie A giant Inter Milan has fallen into the hand of Chinese e-commerce group Suning while its rival AC Milan has recently been acquired by a Chinese investment group led by Sino-Europe Sports Investment Management Changxing.
