Manchester United and Manchester City have been forced to cancel their pre-season match in the Bird’s Nest Stadium. This game, as part of the International Champions Cup (ICC) China, was called off due to the state of the pitch.
Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola have shown their frustration over various issues on this tour, which may result in both clubs going elsewhere in future summers.
The Chief Executives of both clubs were quick to confirm that China and the Far East remain vital to them in terms of their fan bases and commercial sponsors. Relevant Sports, the promoter of the ICC, promised that refunds will be given to the 50,000 fans who bought tickets.
At the same time, United and City’s appearance fees for the tour, which are believed to be around £3m each, will not be affected by the cancellation.
