SPORTACCORD 2024 INSIGHTS: Touchdowns, Home Runs and Slam Dunks

American sports clothing and accessories company Under Armour (UA) has sued Uncle Martian (UM), a production line launched by Fujian-based Tingfeilong Sporting Goods. UA is claiming RMB 100m (US$15.05m) for its loss caused by UM’s trademark infringement and unfair competition.
Earlier, UM dismissed allegations that its logo bears an uncanny resemblance to the one used by Baltimore-based UA. As stated in a former report, a spokesman for UM said that the brand has “nothing to do with” UA.
UA accused the Chinese company of plagiarism, after UM’s photos about its launch event went viral on China’s social networks.
“Uncle Martian’s use of Under Armour’s famous logo, name, and other intellectual property are a serious concern and blatant infringement. Under Armour will vigorously pursue all business and legal courses of action,” Erick Haskell, managing director of Under Armour Greater China, said in a statement.
