"Super Kicker" Wu Jingyu has invested several million yuan in Deerwar, a sports start-up focusing on real-time betting in matches.
Wu Jingyu is a female Chinese Taekwondo practitioner who won gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics in the 49 kg class.
Jiang Jingzhou, the founder of Deerwar, is a serial entrepreneur and in his opinion there is an entertainment side as well as a competitive side to a match. Deerwar aims to meet the growing appetite for the entertainment side of games.
This is Wu's first investment. When asked why she made the decision to invest, she says first of all she believes there will be a bright future for Deerwar after its introduction by the founder. Secondly, the converging of sports and internet is an unstoppable trend. Big data will be applied extensively in the sports industry. Thirdly, she believes in the founder's character and capability.
Wu also won several medals at world championships and Asian Games. Right now she is preparing for the Rio Olympic.
