According to NetEase, Le Sports, the sports arm of Chinese internet giant LeEco, announced yesterday (April 6th) that it is about to launch a pay-to-view model within mainland China.
The “Le Super Sports Subscription Model,” as it is called, will be independent of LeEco’s current Film and TV Subscription Model. The sports company is now marketing three packages, namely, the RMB 590 yearly package, the RMB 159 quarterly package and the RMB 59 monthly package.
As stated in the report, Le Sports’ subscribers will be able to watch games via all of LeEco’s media platforms, including the likes of LeTV, Le Mobile Phone, LeVR and Le Supercar. They will also have access to professional commentary, ticketing discount services and sports travel packages.
At the same time, Le Sports will continue to provide non-subscribers with free streaming services, which cover more than 80% of their acquired sports media rights.
As Liu Jianhong, Chief Content Officer of Le Sports, said, in order to provide customized services for the subscribers, they are looking to invest up to RMB 6 billion to purchase media rights for top sporting events.
In terms of the Chinese Super League (CSL), Le Sports will select at least one CSL match to offer value-added production services to subscribers. This plan starts from the 16th round of the current CSL season, and will cover all CSL matches from the 2018 season.
