The Australia Football League (AFL) side Port Adelaide announced on Sunday a landmark broadcast deal with China Central Television (CCTV) to air two games in the upcoming weeks.
Under the agreements, CCTV will televise the Port Adelaide’s clash with Essendon on Friday night and live broadcast its fixture against Geelong on April 23rd. In addition, the "The AFL Show" will debut on CCTV this weekend and will be screened every Saturday night until the end of the AFL season.
Speaking of the deal, Port Adelaide chief executive Keith Thomas said "This is the first time that AFL will be broadcast on CCTV, the world's biggest television network, and it could be the moment that we reflect on in 20 years' time and say 'that's when China first fell in love with our great game'."
"We anticipate our weekly documentary show and broadcast games will attract an audience of nearly 2 million given they'll be screened in prime time."
