Ali Sports, the sports arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, has announced the launch of the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG), a new tournament that will feature a total prize pool of $5.5 million across all disciplines.
According to Usman Farooq’s report posted on Bidness, Ali Sports has reached a partnership deal with the social networking company YuuZoo Corporation to organize the e-sports tournament.
As stated by Yutang reporters on hand, WESG will showcase games of Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO), StarCraft 2 and Hearthstone.
Hefty cash prizes have been set aside for these games: $1.5 million for CSGO, $1.5 million for Dota 2, $400,000 for StarCraft 2 and $300,000 for Hearthstone. The prize money may also be increased as a result of crowdfunding. The tournament will start in April and conclude in December with the LAN finals in Shanghai, China.
In addition to this, Ali Sports is going to set up an integrated platform for e-gaming players, which will feature user registrations, event publishing, player registration, tournament schedules, service integration and content distribution.
