The famous Chinese soccer star, Gao Leilei, announced yesterday (Thursday) that he will be partnering with Sina Sports to provide regular interviews and other reports during his time at UE Cornella, a team in the Spanish Second Division.
Back in November, Sina Sports hosted a press conference where the 35 year old star announced he was coming out of retirement to play for the Spanish team.
Chinese fans began following Gao Leilei as a midfielder for Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan where he spent eight years of his career from 1999. After making a name for himself there, the footballer pursued his career abroad, making stops with teams in New Zealand, Finland, and the United States.
Gao’s ‘comeback’ announcement received widespread attention throughout China. Besides being recognized for his skills on the soccer field, he has become a prolific philanthropist, largely focusing on building schools and soccer fields across China to provide a better education for children from China’s ethnic minority groups.
