The annual congress of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) opened yesterday in Kunming, Yunnan Province. The conference was attended by football managing officers, representatives from Chinese Super League clubs, China League clubs and sports associations as well as about 70 reporters from dozens of media companies.

Cai Zhenhua, president of the CFA, released The Overall Plan for Chinese Football Reform and Development. The plan, passed in February by China’s central reform group, is aimed at developing the sport across the country and improving standards across all the national teams.

The CFA congress will have a closed-door meeting on Thursday and will conclude on Friday. During the three-day congress, there is the possibility of a reshuffle of the executive committee.

Notably, Gao Hongbo, a former manager of the China national football team and Li Ruigang, the CEO of China Media Company have been nominated as CFA executive members.

As for the future of head coach Alain Perrin if the national team fails to qualify for the 2018 World Cup,  Cai said the CFA will handle the issue in accordance with the contract.
