Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang Province in east China, was chosen by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to host the 2022 Asian Games on Wednesday.
The OCA awarded Hangzhou, the sole bidder, the rights to host the regional games at its 34th Congress in Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan on Wednesday.
Hangzhou's successful bid means it would be the third time a Chinese city to host the regional games following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
It also means China will host two major international sports events in the same year, 2022, including 2022 Winter Olympics Games and 2022 Asian Games.
South Korea's Incheon held the last Asian Games in 2014, while Indonesia's Jakarta will play host in 2018.
