Tencent Sports, a department of Chinese IT giants Tencent Holdings, lately announced the deal with UEFA for the rights to live broadcast UEFA Champions League and Europa League from 2015-2018.
The deal was announced by Tencent Sports not long after Sina Sports, another leading online streamer, claimed the same approach. But neither side has disclosed the financial term.
Under the deal, Tencent Sports will be able to live screen 146 UEFA Champions League matches, playoffs included, and 205 Europa League games per season.
In addition, the brand will also present video highlights and digital magazines to engage fans through its online channels.
As a new emerging sport brand, Shenzhen-based Tencent Sports has been sub-licensed to screen 250 Barclays Premiere League matches this season.
Moreover, the channel has outbid Letv Sports to secure the eye-catching exclusive 5-year broadcast deal, valued at US$500m, with NBA earlier in May.
