Chinese female golfer Feng Shanshan has another chance of winning a home
title later this week at the inaugural Blue Bay LPGA event in Sanya, Hainan
Province.
Feng, currently ranked fifth in the world, failed to defend her title at the Reignwood LPGA Classic earlier this month in Beijing, but bounced back only a week later to win the Sime Darby LPGA in Malaysia on October 12, her first title of the year.
Feng decided to take only her caddie to Kuala Lumpur, leaving her assistants behind, saying she “has no distractions other than playing.”
Feng said at the news conference ahead of Blue Bay on Tuesday. “I hope I can win the second title of the season here.”
But the 2013 year-end championship winner Feng was overshadowed Tuesday by US star Michelle Wie, who returned to play last week after a hiatus since August following a finger injury.
Wie, the 2014 US Women’s Open Golf Championship, currently sitting sixth in the world rankings, said she is fully fit now and expecting to earn more points ahead of the year-end championship when world ranking leaders Stacy Lewis and Park Inbee will skip the event.
The star-studded event roster also features this year’s major champions Lexi Thompson and Mo Martin, as well as two-time tour winner Jessica Korda, Lydia Ko, Lee Mi-rim and Anna Nordqvist.
A total of 13 Chinese female professional golfers will join the 81-player battle for the $2 million purse at the par-72 Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course.
In Kuala Lumpur, China’s Feng Shanshan rallied to win the LPGA Malaysia for her fourth LPGA Tour title, playing a six-hole stretch on the back nine in 6 under.
Not only Feng,another Chinese golfer,19-year-old Li Haotong became the youngest winner of an Asia-Pacific One Asia tournament, taking the Nanshan China Masters by shooting a final-round 1-under-par 70 on Oct 12th,the same day with Feng won in Malaysia.And he also won the champion of PGA tour China in Zhengzhou last month.
