Shanghai beat Beijing in the first round of the 2014 New Balance Hero Run 6 km Charity Race at the weekend at Beijing Olympic Forest Park and Shanghai Oriental Sports Center.
Almost 10,000 runners took part in the charity event in the two cities, which Shanghai won by having more people finish the 6 km race within 45 minutes. More than 2,500 pairs of sneakers were collected through the event, which will be given to children in poverty-stricken areas through the help of the Yao Foundation.
Further rounds of the event will be held between Chengdu and Chongqing, and Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the coming months.
