International Boxing Association held a news conference in Guiyang of China in the afternoon of May 18, announcing the start of the AIBA Guiyang International Boxing Season.
The season will start on June 6 and 7 in Guiyang, and will have 14 top players from abroad such as Brazil and Russia to compete. Three Chinese players will compete in the fights, two of whom will have the chance to compete for tickets to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Four rounds of events, including preliminary fight and final of the second season of APB (AIBA Pro Boxing), and AIBA Open Boxing will be played in Guiyang, from June to October.
International Boxing Association created the unique concept of a boxing season made up of different top international events and activities. No other sports have similar “seasons”. Chinese Boxing Federation has cooperated with AIBA to identify Guiyang as the host city.
Guiyang was the place where famous Chinese boxing athlete Zou Shiming was initially trained. It has a very promising environment for boxing. International Boxing Association is going to cooperate closely with Guiyang in the next five years to grow boxing programs and develop boxing industry in Guiyang and nearby regions, to have sports travel, sports finance, and sports training to be introduced in the region. The related parties hope to make Guiyang a Boxing Capital of the World.
