Chengdu becomes World Xiangqi Brand Events Cooperation City

On September 18, the “Belt and Road” Sichuan Airlines · Panda’s Road 2019 Global Pair Xiangqi Tournament press conference was held in Chengdu, where the city of Chengdu received the “World Xiangqi Brand Events Cooperation City” award from the World Xiangqi Federation (WXF). Organized by the WXF and the Chengdu People’s Government, the Global Pair Xiangqi Tournament will take place from September 18-22, with Sichuan Airlines being its sole title sponsor.

Founded in 2017 with the aim of helping Chengdu become one of the most well-known international sports city, the Global Pair Xiangqi Tournament is a home-grown and innovative Xiangqi tournament organized by the WXF.

This is the first time the WXF has granted the award to any city in the world, which reflects the recognition of Chengdu by the WXF for its efforts and achievement in promoting the game and culture of Xiangqi. With the award, Chengdu will no doubt enjoy more international fame and influence as a “Chess City”.

32 Xiangqi players from 14 countries will compete in the tournament, including players from China, Australia, Belarus, Cambodia, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Russia, Vietnam, the Netherlands, and the Philippines.
