Liupanshui Marathon organizing committee partner with China Mobile

On July 15, the organizing committee of the 2019 Liupanshui Summer International Marathon together with the Liupanshui Guizhou branch of China Mobile, hosted a signing ceremony ’5G Smart Marathon’, at the telecommunication provider’s office.

The 2019 Liupanshui Marathon will use 5G technologies to provide a new experience for runners. 5G high definition cameras and high frequency reader/writers will be set up and based on when the RFID reader/writers are triggered to action by a runner, recorded videos of the runner will be sent back to the server, essentially creating a personal video which runners can access via the marathon’s WeChat applet called ‘Smart Liu Ma’, and then share with their family, friends and fans.

By using 5G technologies, the organizers will be able to do a statistical analysis of the Liupanshui marathon, revealing information including the number and distribution of supporters of a runner, the number of runners from different provinces, or what cities are more active in terms of sharing information about the events. The organizers wish to present to the outside world the unique tourism resources of Liupanshui by using the ‘Smart Marathon’ as a platform, eventually attracting more tourists to the city.

The Liupanshui Summer International Marathon has been held successfully for six years since it first took place in 2013. It has attained a high level status and largest scale marathon event in Guizhou province, a Chinese Athletic Association gold label event, and an International Association of Athletics Federation bronze label event. Boasting of a 19℃ summer, Liupanshui, China is a perfect city to run a marathon in the summer.
