According to media reports, China Sports Media, who look after the full media rights of the Chinese Football Association Cup, has assigned the CFA Cup media rights in the Asia-Pacific region to MEDIAPRO Asia for 2019. MEDIAPRO Asia will see to the distribution of the CFA Cup media rights in the region exclusively in 2019.

The CFA Cup originated from the National Football Championship created in 1956 and is one of the most important football competitions in China, behind the top professional football leagues.

In 2018, 72 teams played in the CFA Cup, including all teams in the Chinese Super League, the China League, Chinese Football Association Division Two League plus 12 amateur and grassroots teams. For the 2019 season, 32 amateur teams have been approved to play in the CFA Cup. The inclusion of amateur and grassroots teams is a result of the 2012 CFA strategy to develop the CFA Cup into a nationally participated football competition.

The winner of the CFA Cup will participate in the Chinese Football Association Super Cup and the AFC Champions League.

The duration of each CFA Cup season is quite long. Prelims and qualifying rounds for the 2018 CFA Cup started in Nov 2017 with the first round proper taking place in March and the 2-leg final in November.

The 2018 winners of the CFA Cup were Beijing Sinobo Guoan FC, 15 years since the club previously won the competition.
