The UFC announced on November 20 a plan to run the world’s largest MMA performance center in Shanghai in 2019. The center will be named the “UFC Performance Institute Shanghai” and will be three times the size of the UFC headquarters in Las Vegas, USA.
The UFC Performance Institute Shanghai will act as the Asian headquarters of the UFC, in addition to serving as a training and development center for China and Asia-Pacific MMA athletes. It will also take care of the UFC’s needs for fight production and for fans. The UFC will be able to produce and live broadcast UFC fight events and other original programming. VIP and hospitality suites, dining, souvenir and merchandise sales and fan experience areas will also be integrated into the institute. The total size of the institute will be over 9,000 sqm.
More importantly, the UFC Performance Institute Shanghai is expected to be a catalyst for the development of Asian MMA athletes, to improve the development of MMA techniques in Asia and to raise the understanding of MMA in Asia. To achieve these visions, the institute will gather a team of top-class coaches and develop special training systems. Forrest Griffin at UFC will lead the coach team.
UFC also regards the opening of the Shanghai Institute as a signal of UFC’s revolution in improving sport performances.
