The Taiwanese pop singer, producer, actor and film director Jay Chou participated in the launch of the JYB 3x3 Basketball League in China, in collaboration with Starz International Sports and PCG BROS. The official launch ceremony was held in Beijing on June 12.

The league will learn from existing exemplary 3x3 basketball leagues in China and abroad in terms of league rules, points systems and business model in order to provide a competition platform for grassroots basketball fans and music lovers.

The first edition will feature eight teams from the DDD 3x3 League which is organized by PCG BROS and teams from Youku’s reality show Dunk Boys which previously had Jay Chou as a guest. DDD 3x3 League was previously organized in Taiwan. The prize money for the winning team will be CNY1m.

Jay Chou said “we understand basketball is like music in the sense that they are both excellent platforms that transcend culture and enable self-expression.”

The league’s name JYB is the first letters of the romanized writing of the league’s slogan “就要Battle” or “Jiu Yao Battle” which means “Just Battle”. J is also the first letter of Jay.

This is not the first time Jay Chou has entered the sports business sector. He has been involved in an eSports project since 2016 creating an eSports company in China. Being a  famous pop singer and music producer in mainland China, Jay Chou created a trend in the first decade of the 21st century with his songs and later with his films.
