MIGU Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of the Chinese telecommunications group China Mobile, announced this morning via their Weibo account that they have become an official designated partner of CCTV to broadcast the 2018 FIFA World Cup on digital media and telecommunication channels.
This is the first time since the 2010 South Africa World Cup that there is an alternative live streaming digital channel of the World Cup in China other than CCTV. It is also the first time that a Chinese telecommunications supplier directly participates in the live streaming of the World Cup.
Given this partnership, MIGU will offer Chinese audiences live streaming and on-demand videos of all 64 World Cup matches on the MIGU Video app for mobile and PC, as an alternative to CNTV, the digital platform of CCTV which is the only digital platform in China to show the matches.
Users of China Mobile’s TV box service, Mobaihe, will also be able to watch high-definition content of all 64 games on TV.
Established in 2014 as a subsidiary of China Mobile, MIGU is strategically positioned to offer content products and services in the digital content and mobile internet fields. There are five subsidiary companies of MIGU that respectively target five different content areas: Music, video, reading, gaming and comic section.
China Mobile is one of the largest telecommunications suppliers in China, with billions of users in China.
