CFA renames their fourth-tier football league

By Chen Yaping Friday, 12 Jan 2018 17:37

The Chinese Football Association (CFA) has renamed the fourth-tier football league of China to the Chinese Football Association Member Association Champions League (CMCL), according to an official document posted on Thursday.

Before 2006, the CMCL was known as Chinese Football Association Bing League. From 2006 to 2017, they started to use the name Chinese Football Association Amateur League. Starting from 2014, the league gained the promotion or relegation options with China League Two, the third-tier football league in China.

The document also listed rules and schedules for the 2018 CMCL season, making it clear that this year’s tournaments will consist of preliminary heats and finals. At least 8 teams will play in round-robin matches organized by each local governing body during the preliminary stage, and the champion teams can reach the final games in different divisions.

The first-place team of last season will also be eligible if a local league competition has not ended by the start of the final stage.
