December 17: Shen Jinkang, President of the Chinese Cycling Association (CSA), has announced at a conference in Tianjin that the CSA will implement some reform measures in their support of the sport of cycling in China. According to Shen, these measures will cover the CSA’s organizational structure, cycling events, developing talent and “national clubs”.
Since a new group of CSA leaders were inaugurated in July, the CSA has adjusted its organizational structure through setting up new departments specializing in managing China’s national teams and cycling events. The association will also change the way it manages its members, referees and media communication to make its management system more effective.
To enhance the performance of Team China in international cycling races, especially at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the CSA will set up “national cycling clubs” and “national professional cycling teams” to gather and develop more cycling talent in China.
Additionally, foreign elite coaches will be employed as head coaches of those programs where China’s national teams are capable of taking the crown. Investment in cycling research will also see an increase.
Regarding cycling talent identification and development, the CSA will launch cycling races in China in which both professional and amateur cyclists can participate. To compete in these races, outstanding amateur cyclists will have the opportunity to be selected as a member of the national team, while professional cyclists will also get the chance to join professional cycling clubs.
Now, the CSA has planned to launch a cycling series next year, covering BMX cycling, road cycling and mountain cycling for professional and amateur cyclists, as well as professional cycling clubs.
